REF. 2497J
The first perpetual calendar with sweep seconds
1st Series Flat Back
Produced between 1951 and 1963 in an estimated total of just 120 pieces, the Patek Philippe Ref. 2497 remains one of the most elusive and desirable vintage references in the maison’s history. It was the first perpetual calendar wristwatch with center seconds, pairing mechanical innovation with a clean, classical design.
Sharing its case proportions with the legendary Ref. 2499, the 2497 is even rarer. Early examples feature flat case backs by Emile Vichet, while later versions were made by Wenger with elegant bombé backs. All were fitted with exquisite dials by Stern Frères.
Crafted in yellow, pink, white gold—and exceptionally, platinum—the reference is seldom seen in public or private sales, making it rarer than many icons such as the 1518, 2499, or 1463.
With its balanced 37mm case, understated elegance, and historical significance, the Ref. 2497 represents one of the most wearable and important perpetual calendars ever created.
