With Naissance d’une Montre 2, a new chapter is written in the story of independent horology — one not driven by production numbers or novelty, but by preservation. Created under the guidance of the Time Æon Foundation, this unique piece reflects a mission to protect and transmit the endangered art of traditional watchmaking. At its heart: two master watchmakers, Dominique Buser and Cyrano Devanthey, in collaboration with Greubel Forsey and Urwerk.

Everything about this watch defies modern expectations. Its movement — entirely handmade, without CNC or industrial machines — is the result of a four-year journey. The creators relied solely on traditional tools and 19th-century techniques to bring it to life. The result is not a product but a singular horological statement, alive with soul, patience, and mechanical truth.

The hand-wound calibre is inverted and fully visible on the dial side, showcasing a constant force mechanism with a differential, a large free-sprung balance, and central hours and minutes. A small seconds subdial sits at a subtle diagonal between 6 and 7 o’clock. Turn the piece over, and the caseback reveals twin mainspring barrels, joined by a continuous mainspring and functioning as a constant torque system reminiscent of a fusee-and-chain. A sweeping hand indicates remaining power.

Measuring 41mm x 48mm, the case is rendered in 18k white gold, its shape clean, architectural, and uncompromising. The dial, free of branding save for a quiet inscription of Naissance d’Une Montre 2, reinforces the purity of purpose. It is fitted with a hand-stitched alligator strap and a matching white gold pin buckle.

This is not just the second watch in the Naissance d’une Montre lineage. It is the only one.
