Métiers d’Art Mécaniques Gravées
2023
The Vacheron Constantin Métiers d’Art Mécaniques Gravées is a rare expression of the Manufacture’s artistic mastery - a timepiece where traditional engraving transforms mechanical watchmaking into pure sculpture. Introduced within the esteemed Métiers d’Art collection, it embodies the Maison’s long-standing pursuit of merging horology with the decorative arts, a philosophy rooted in centuries of craftsmanship.
Crafted in a refined 39 mm case of 950 platinum, the watch achieves remarkable elegance through its slim 8.5 mm profile and balanced proportions. Its defining feature lies in the absence of a conventional dial: instead, the entire movement is revealed, fully hand-engraved with intricate motifs that extend across the mainplate and bridges. Each calibre requires dozens of hours of meticulous work, transforming every component into a canvas of exceptional detail.
At its heart beats the manually wound Calibre 4400/1, a movement celebrated for its purity and architectural clarity. Comprising 127 finely finished components and offering a power reserve of approximately 65 hours, it delivers both technical reliability and visual poetry. The openworked design allows light to interact with the engraved surfaces, creating a constantly shifting play of depth and texture.
White-gold hands glide above a subtle slate-grey minute track, ensuring legibility without distracting from the artistry beneath. Sapphire crystals on both sides of the case provide uninterrupted views of the engraving work, while the timepiece is complemented by a dark blue alligator strap and a platinum buckle shaped in the iconic Maltese cross - a signature of Vacheron Constantin.
Offered here as a 2023 model in never worn condition, this example represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the purest expressions of hand-engraved haute horlogerie. More than a watch, it is a testament to human craftsmanship - where time is not only measured, but beautifully carved into metal.
