An extremely rare 14K yellow gold tonneau-shaped wristwatch by Patek Philippe, produced around 1925 during one of the most fascinating transitional periods in the history of wristwatch design.

During the early decades of the twentieth century, Patek Philippe had not yet fully introduced the reference numbering system that collectors know today. Instead, watches were commonly identified by their model numbers or case shapes. Only later in the mid-1920s would the brand begin systematically referencing its timepieces — with iconic models such as the celebrated Ref. 96 becoming among the first examples of the modern reference system.

This remarkable timepiece therefore belongs to the pre-reference era, when case design itself served as the defining identity of a watch.
